Beyond Partnership Project Launch Conference

The TDA launched the consultation period for the Beyond Partnership Project at the Hilton Metropole Hotel, London on 25 June 2009. The event brought together initial teacher training (ITT) providers, school staff and other key stakeholders and aimed to:

  • inform ITT providers and schools about the project and how it fits with the Government's wider agenda for the development of the children's and young people's workforce
  • showcase some of the effective models of partnerships in ITT identified in the early stages of the project, including the partnership development schools and training schools programmes
  • capture viewpoints and experiences of ITT providers and schools in delivering teacher training through partnership working
  • identify areas for future development of support and guidance.

 

Pre-Conference materials to be used in preparation for the event were provided in advance to give delegates background information on the policy drivers and TDA work which will inform the consultation period.   The full Conference Agenda sets out the timetable for the day.

 

Andrew Ettinger, Head of Strategic Priorities at the TDA, welcomed the delegates and introduced the conference.  The keynote address was given by Paul Collard, Chief Executive - Creativity, Culture and Education.  A message was relayed to the audience from Vernon Coaker and other contributors included two presentations.  The first, entitled Beyond Partnership was written by Jacquie Nunn, the Beyond Partnership Consultation was written and presented by Liz Foster, Dinah Hanlon, Jim McGrath and Keith Saunders, and the final presentation was written by John Carr on Masters in Teaching and Learning.  All powerpoint presentations are attached below.

 

Workshops took place in parallel to the consultation and these included:

  • The impact of initial teacher training (ITT) on raising pupil achievement and school improvement
  • More can be better - trainees in primary classrooms
  • Developing high quality maths and science teachers
  • Building ITT partnerships in settings other than schools
  • Linking ITT to continuing professional development (CPD) and performance maagement frameworks (PMF) in schools
  • Supporting Every Child Matters adn the modernising agenda through ITT.
  • How ITT can support schools facing challenging circustances.

 

Presentations were given by schools and ITT provider partnerships involved in the Partnership Development Schools programme, the Leading Partners in Literacy programme and the Training Schools programme. These presentations are available below:
