Internet for Education Guide

The Internet for Eduction

Tutors and trainees will find this guide useful in developing a critical approach to searching for education-based material on the web when they want to search beyond the TTRB and before they ask the E-Librarian a question.

It was produced by library staff from the University of London's Institute of Education and forms part of INTUTE's Virtual Training Suite.

It complements and follows on from the Internet Detective tutorial that is a more widely based guide to using the web for research.

It is navigated from an easy-to-use side menu bar and provides:

  • comprehensive lists of websites concerned with education that can be selected for inclusion in a ‘links basket’ that can be consulted later on;
  • information on using online library catalogues;
  • advice on devising a search strategy and how to judge the quality of what you find;
  • examples of successful use, including job hunting on the Internet and a mention of the TTRB and the e-librarian project.

Teacher educators will find this a useful resource to refer trainees to when they are preparing to undertake any form of web-based information gathering for the first time after they have used the Internet Detective tutorial.
