Following feedback from the Training and Development Agency for Schools (TDA) Support for ICT in ITT funding rounds in 2003/04 and 2004/05, videoconferencing has been identified as an area that teacher training providers wish to explore but experience problems in implementing.
In order to help address these issues, the TDA in partnership with United Kingdom Education and Research Networking Association (UKERNA)* will be hosting a series of events dedicated to raising videoconferencing awareness and to promote the use of videoconferencing via JANET and the JANET Videoconferencing Service (JVCS)**.
Each event will feature presentations from Tim Arnold and Steve Cayley (Devon Curriculum Services); Dr Robert Symberlist, and Tim Boundy (UKERNA); and John Martin (JVCS). The events will include several examples of projects completed with the regional broadband consortia and a live videoconference with a national or local museum.
Notes:
*UKERNA (United Kingdom Education and Research Networking Association) manages the operation and development of JANET, the UK education and research network. UKERNA is government funded, with the primary aim of providing and developing a network infrastructure that meets the needs of the education and research communities. (http://www.ja.net/)
**The JANET Videoconferencing Service is one of the JANET national services managed by UKERNA and is available to all UK universities, colleges and now schools. (http://www.jvcs.ja.net/)
